Apia, Samoa – Wednesday, 23rd June 2022.
The National University of Samoa, in collaboration with the Institution of Professional Engineers of
Samoa (IPES), hosted a Scholarship Awards Presentation to celebrate the successful recipients for
Semester 1 2022.
The IPES President – Afioga Tafeamaalii Philip Kerslake presented a cheque of ten thousand tala to
the Acting Vice Chancellor – Afioga Peseta Dr. Desmond Lee Hang, to sponsor twenty scholarship
awardees. The majority of the successful scholarship recipients are in their second or third year of
studying a Bachelor of Science program.
The successful recipients include: Aniora Faatoafe, Matalasi Iosefa, Charlster Ameto, Ramona Sio,
Faitau Sione, Musi Brown, Gibbson Ryan, Tiaina Lui, Iosefa Pulotu, Aloiamoa Mulipola, Savelina
Fagasoaia, Lorenzo Liufau, Tolua Asalele, Simon Potifar, Adelaide Nafo’i, Lepaono Fetu, Pati Makisi,
Tului Faletoese, Lemalie Keti and Quezon Leauanae.
According to Afioga Tafeamaalii Philip Kerslake he stated, “This year marks 8 years since the Institute
began granting scholarship awards for NUS Students in 2014, notably in the field of engineering and
science related disciplines that are relevant to our institute. This presentation was postponed from
April due to the COVID-19 lockdown but we are glad it is now possible.”
The Acting Vice Chancellor, Afioga Peseta Dr. Desmond Lee Hang, thanked the IPES President and its
members for their continuous support, given the need for financial assistance with tuition fees during
these uncertain times. Indeed, these scholarships will enable the selected recipients to complete their
studies at the University. And in the long run, contribute to achieving the University’s mission of
responding to the human resource needs of Samoa.
