Honorable Minister of Finance, Lautimuia Uelese Vaai welcomed Ambassador Christensen to Samoa
and was pleased to meet whilst in Samoa for the signing of the Samoa Agreement. The key
discussions were focused on climate resilience initiatives, climate financing and areas of
development for potential bilateral engagement between Samoa and Denmark in future. Denmark is
one of the leading countries in renewable energy development, and the experience shared by the
Ambassador especially with the SIDS was of interest to Minister Lautimuia given the importance of
the renewable energy agenda for Samoa and its campaign against climate impact. Samoa’s
experience and development priorities in the climate resilience and energy sector were discussed, as
well as the potential solutions to address challenges in the implementation funded priorities for
Samoa.
The active engagement with Denmark is through the support from the European Union, Green
Climate Fund, Global Environment Facility (GEF), multilateral development banks and through
regional organisation such as SPC.
Minister Lautimuia was also joined by CEO Ministry Of Finance- Saoleititi Maeva Betham-Vaai and
one of the MOF senior officials.
