We have now come to the end of the official ceremony for the
celebration of Samoa’s 62 years of Independence.

We welcome every opportunity to come together and to share on
the essence of our sovereignty and the success of our democracy.

Let me acknowledge all those who took part in the march past
this morning. Thank you for supporting our programme, and it
was joyful to see all of you, and especially the young students
enjoying the occasion.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our guests of
honour and all guests of government who have graced us with
their presence in our celebration. Your participation has made
this event truly memorable. We pray for the Lord’s divine
guidance on our journey into the future, in the spirit of genuine
partnerships and solidarity. For those returning home after the
celebrations, we wish you safe travels to your countries.

This year’s celebrations align with the recent changes in
government policy for the commemoration of our independence.
It provides an opportunity for our people to celebrate
independence in communities and in districts throughout the
country.

May we continue to stand united as a nation, embracing our
heritage, our Christian values, culture and traditions, and work
together as we set sail into the future.
