The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour (the Ministry) is
pleased to announce the official receipt of trade measurement equipment that were donated by the
Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) through their Pacific Quality Infrastructure (PQI) initiative,
to support the legal metrology activities in Samoa. The Ministry is administering the Metrology Act
2015 and with the accessibility with these resources are significant for ensuring precision, accuracy,
and quality control in measurement of weighing equipment and scales as well as calibration services
as mandated under our portfolio.
The donated metrology equipment comes with a calibration certificate issued by the National
Association of Testing Authorities accredited laboratories with a validity of two years, to ensure its
accuracy and compliance with international standards and requirements as prescribed in the
regulation. Additionally, the regular maintenance of the equipment is essential for its long term
usage hence, the Ministry is ensuring proper storage is in place for this purpose. The availability of
equipment would greatly support our efforts in enhancing our calibration and verification services
which facilitates trading in Samoa and, ultimately beneficial for both consumers and businesses.
The Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Pulotu Lyndon Chu Ling expressed his sincere appreciation for
the kind donation by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat which will aid the works of the Ministry
and contribute to our own national efforts in building capacity for our small island nation.
