– The Samoa Chamber of Commerce held its last monthly members meeting for the year
on Wednesday 15th November 2023 at the Sina Restaurant at the Taumeasina Island Resort. The
Chamber meetings serve as a forum for its members and the business community, to be given an
update on the work conducted by the SCCI Executive Council and Secretariat including policy issues
being address to government officials and the sharing of any upcoming opportunities for the business
community.
The Members Meeting, sponsored by Digicel Samoa, was chaired by SCCI President Seulupe Michelle
Macdonald. The Secretariat update to its members was provided by SCCI Memberservices Manager
Lote Lima, focusing on private sector issues raised over the last month as well as upcoming events and
opportunities for the private sector.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment was invited to present to members on the
Advance Recovery Fee and Deposits (Waste Levy) as part of the Chamber policy update. The
presentation was delivered by MNRE Chief Executive Officer Lealaisalanoa Frances Reupena and
Principal Officer for Waste Management and Pollution Control, Aliimuamua Setoa Apo; this was well
received by members of the private sector as a key opportunity for dialogue with our Government
and collaboration in future consultations.
The meeting was closed by presentations by the meeting hosts, Digicel Samoa. The Digicel Samoa
Chief Executive Officer Anthony Seuseu delivered the official address and introduced the Digicel Pacific
Regional Chief Executive Officer Shally Jannif and Digicel Pacific Head of Enterprise Ronald Prasad to
Chamber members. The final presentation was delivered by Digicel representative Iftaar Ali who spoke
on Digicel’s exclusive products and services that are available to the business community.
SCCI extends its gratitude to the MNRE Chief Executive Officer Lealaisalanoa Frances Reupena for
accepting our invitation for dialogue with the private sector; this will build and strengthen the Public-
Private Partnership with our Government. SCCI also acknowledges Anthony Seuseu and the staff of
Digicel Samoa for their hospitality in hosting its final members meeting for 2023. The meeting was
followed by a networking session.
