“Samoa and Singapore enter new era of Air Connectivity with the Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and Air Service Agreement”

Singapore, February 19, 2024 – In a significant move to strengthen ties and enhance air
connectivity, the Government of Samoa and the Government of Singapore have officially
inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Air Service Agreement.
The signing took place immediately following the opening ceremony of the 3rd
Singapore-Pacific Islands Transport Ministers’ Forum in Singapore on Sunday 18
February.
The Minister of Works, Transport, and Infrastructure, Honorable Olo Fiti Afoa Vaai and
Singapore Minister of Transport, Honorable Chee Hong Tat, signed on behalf of the
Government of Samoa and the Government of Singapore, respectively. The agreement
marks a milestone in the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
The MOU and Air Service Agreement are set to unlock numerous opportunities for both
nations, facilitating not just an increase in tourism and trade but also cultural exchange
and mutual understanding. The agreement is expected to pave the way for direct flights
between Samoa and Singapore, offering travelers and businesses more options and
convenience.
Expressing his optimism about this agreement, Hon. Olo stated, "This MOU is a
testament to the strong relationship between Samoa and Singapore. We are excited about
the possibilities that enhanced air connectivity brings to our people and economies. This
is more than just an agreement; it is a bridge between our nations."
Hon. Olo is accompanied by Afioga Fui Tupa’i Mau Simanu, MWTI Chief Executive
Officer/Secretary for Transport, Lauano Yvonne Tuioti Mariner-Viliamu, MWTI
Assistant Chief Executive Officer/Director Civil Aviation Division, Tualamaalii Wendy
Pogi, Assistant Chief Executive Officer Legal and Afioga Leiataua Isikuki Punivalu,
Samoa Airport Authority Chairman.
The 3 rd Singapore-Pacific Islands Transport Ministers Forum is currently underway
alongside the 2 nd Changi Aviation Summit for the attending Government Officials, which
will be followed by the Singapore Airshow 2024.
The Samoan delegation is able to attend these high level meetings due to the courtesy of
the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.
