On the theme, “SPA for a greener tomorrow”, the Samoa Ports Authority celebrates its silver jubilee
of 25 years of service to the people of Samoa this week.
The Authority, reflects on its journey, as a public trading body, mandated to develop and manage
Samoa’s main international seaport in Apia, as well as its domestic sea ports in Upolu and Savaii, from
its humble beginnings on the 1 st July 1999. It envisions itself today, to be the leading gateway port in
providing green, safe, efficient and effective services.
Over the years, the Authority stayed true to its vision, of port infrastructure development and continues
to develop and maintain safe and climate resilient port infrastructure and services, in compliance with
national and international standards, to ensure operational excellence and profitability, in partnership
with its stakeholders.
The Authority has also improved on its financial status, achieving a Net Profit consistently since 2017,
enabling it to pay dividends to the Government of Samoa, as regulated under the Public Bodies Act
2001. To mark its silver jubilee, the Authority has paid a total accumulated dividend of $25 million
tala to the Government.
The 25th anniversary celebration will commence on the 2 nd July 2024, with a Holy Thanksgiving Mass
at the St Theresa of the Child Jesus, Lepea Catholic Church, in the evening. On the second day, the
Authority will hold a Green Port Fair and Charity Donation to the Home of the Elderly at
Mapuifagalele, followed by the Official Opening of Domestic Ports Upgrade Project at Salelologa
Wharf and charity donation to Mapuipulotu on the 4 th July 2024. The celebrations will conclude on the
5 th July, with its Silver Jubilee Ball, which includes awarding of recognition awards for its long serving
employees.
The General Manager of Samoa Ports Authority, So’oalo Falelima Kuresa So’oalo, acknowledges
