STAND STRAIGHT FOR A SAFER SAMOA’ PROJECT’ LAUNCHED

The Aiga Supakako is pleased to launch the ‘Stand Straight for a Safer Samoa Project’ today
(Friday 18 th June 2021) to support the sellers who are selling their agricultural produce, seafood
and cooked meals besides the streets. Supakako is a small organization in Samoa that values
the safety of the general public on the roads.
Like anywhere in the world, Samoa continues to experience road accidents. Many have been
fatal. Supakako through this project recognizes the essence of road safety in support of our
national efforts to make Samoa safer.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Police and Prison, Ministry of Women and Social
Development, Ministry of Prime Minister and Cabinet were among the list of invited guests
attending the launching ceremonies Friday afternoon.
The project will see the vendors who are selling produce beside the streets in the country being
provided with a vest to make them visible to motorists. There are two or more little stalls
beside the roads in almost every village in Samoa to sell taro, bananas, coconuts and all other
variety of agricultural produce. There are also many seafood sellers. This has become a norm to
many, which is a great opportunity to become entrepreneurs, and to provide for their families.

The vests will be provided free of charge to street stall owners.

Supakako expresses its sincere gratitude
and appreciation to the kind financial
assistance and support from the Tasi
Market New Zealand co-owners – Father
Leatuao Lotumalii Larry Tupai Lavea and
Tuala Tagaloa Tusani. (pictured left).
The support of these sons of Samoa
through the Tasi Market New Zealand has
made this dream a reality for Aiga
Supakako to contribute to the safety of our
community.
The project is planned to include all
villages in the country and would seek to
work in partnership with relevant
government agencies and the private
sector.
